SANTO DOMINGO.- The movement of international garbage in ports and airports is under the strict and sole removal by the Plant and Animal Quarantine of the Ministry of Agriculture and the General Directorate of Livestock.
This is established in Resolution No. RES-MARD-2025-10, dated March 6 of this year, issued by Agriculture, which establishes compliance with requirements and procedures for the regulation and final elimination of food surpluses from airplanes and other means of transport of passengers and crew.
The official document authorizes government entities , through technicians at the terminals, to take measures of sanction, suspension and any other that may be deemed necessary in the event of non-compliance with this resolution.
The protocol has the endorsement of international organizations ; Law 4030 , on Livestock Health Defense, and Law 4990, on Plant Health of the country, several other resolutions and their modifications that establish the organization, supervision and execution of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Directorate of Livestock of the Dominican Republic for these purposes, according to a press release.
Minister Limber Cruz , who signed the resolution, emphasized that this measure is in line with international standards to strengthen the plant and animal quarantine , as well as to prevent the introduction of pests and diseases harmful to local production.
waste and garbage must be sterilized by technicians and then burned in incinerators at all terminals, proceeding with the effective protocol for the treatment and handling of such waste.
