The executive director of the Airport Department, Víctor Pichardo, reported yesterday, Saturday, that the construction work on the Santiago Heliport is expected to begin in the coming days, a project described as a necessity for this city.
Pichardo visited the headquarters of the Association for the Development of Santiago ( Apedi ), as well as the board of trustees managing Central Park, the site where the building will be constructed.
According to a press release, the official highlighted that the greatest importance of this heliport lies in the fact that Santiago does not have a specialized structure like this to deal with emergency situations and carry out safe evacuations.
He indicated that the project has already been tendered and awarded, in accordance with the provisions of Law 340-06 on Purchases and Contracts, respecting all the corresponding regulations.

"Santiago cannot turn its back on connectivity, and this project is included in the entire master plan for Central Park. Furthermore, it will complement the National Network of Heliports in this area of Cibao," Pichardo reported.
Ulises Rodríguez, the mayor of Santiago who was present at the meeting, stated that "this project only formalizes a space that is used for these landings, but without the required safety and formality.".
Meanwhile, the president of Apedi, Juan Mera, assured that this is a project to which they have given their full support, because it is vital in the face of the economic growth that the city is experiencing, but also to address management in the face of possible catastrophes.
"If Santiago does not prepare itself, including by implementing this solution represented by the heliport, we will not have the necessary facilities to face the level of investment, which is growing in this city," Mera stated.
The heliport will feature a modern terminal and three helipads , or helicopter platforms, with an environmentally friendly design and integrated into Central Park.
