The program includes paving of the streets by Public Works, starting on Friday, November 7.
SANTO DOMINGO - President Luis Abinader announced that the Government will allocate RD$12 billion to provide assistance to communities, agricultural producers, merchants and others affected by Tropical Storm Melissa last October.
At the conclusion of a follow-up meeting with Vice President Raquel Peña , ministers, directors and mayors , the head of state indicated that these measures also aim to reactivate the economy and restore impacted infrastructure .
The president announced that he has allocated RD$2 billion to the Agricultural Bank to provide financing to affected producers , ensuring the continuity of their operations. Direct aid will also be provided to agricultural producers who have suffered losses.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture will take over the repair and maintenance of rural roads , which are vital for rural mobility and the production chain.
An additional RD$1,500,000,000 will be allocated to Promipymes so that they can increase small loans and provide support to affected small merchants and micro-entrepreneurs
Special contributions
Similarly, the central government will distribute special, non-reimbursable funds to municipalities located in the provinces that remained under red alert during the storm, to expedite the local relief response. This assistance has also been provided following previous weather events.
These contributions will also be used to accelerate the cleanup of ravines by CAASD and INAPA , with special emphasis on those that pose a greater danger to the safety of communities.
The plan also includes the Ministry of Public Works street paving program starting tomorrow, Friday, November 7, and the Ministry of Education evaluating the implementation of a plan to recover lost teaching hours.
Regarding the health sector, President Abinader assured that the relevant authorities have taken the necessary precautions to prevent and address typical illnesses that arise after storms.
Decreased rainfall
Regarding the weather forecast, the director of Indomet, Gloria Ceballos sporadic rains are expected , but they will not generate significant accumulations. However, she warned of an increase in precipitation starting next week due to a trough .
