SANTO DOMINGO. -The executive director of the Airport Department (DA), Víctor Pichardo, conducted a follow-up tour of the land where the Santiago Heliport is being built, with the purpose of evaluating the progress of the work and ensuring compliance with the established schedule for its completion.
Pichardo highlighted the strategic importance of this project for the economic development of the Cibao region and, in particular, Santiago, noting that the heliport will directly impact key sectors such as tourism, business, and medical emergencies in the event of natural disasters.
“We are here monitoring the schedule of this project, which is considered extremely important for the development of the entire Cibao region, and especially Santiago; because this heliport will directly impact business, medical emergencies, and above all, tourism,” Pichardo said.
The official reported that the heliport airfield is more than 80 percent complete, and that work has already begun on the terminal that will house the administrative offices, waiting room and other facilities.

The Santiago Heliport is equipped with a FATO-type platform for helicopter landing and takeoff and three aircraft parking platforms, made of reinforced concrete, each 314 square meters in size, designed in accordance with the Dominican Aeronautical Regulation RAD14, Volume II, Heliports.
In addition, it will have a state-of-the-art aeronautical lighting system, which can be activated from the aircraft via radio frequency for safe night operations.

Pichardo announced that, after the inspection in Santiago, he will make a similar visit to the La Vega Heliport, located on the grounds of the Professor Juan Bosch Traumatological and Surgical Hospital, which “is already ready for its handover.”.

The structure features a 21x21 square meter Helipad properly equipped with a modern aeronautical lighting system for carrying out safe night operations.
