SANTO DOMINGO. – The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported that, as a preventive measure, it has ordered the temporary closure of the Las Américas Avenue tunnel due to the intense rainfall affecting Greater Santo Domingo , a province declared under red alert by the Emergency Operations Center (COE) as a result of a trough.
This decision aims to safeguard the safety of drivers and pedestrians by preventing incidents resulting from water accumulation in the infrastructure.
The MOPC, in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transport (Digesett) , has arranged alternate routes and detours in the area to guarantee mobility and minimize traffic disruptions.
The tunnel will be reopened as soon as weather conditions allow for safe operation. In the meantime, the Ministry is maintaining constant monitoring with teams on site.
The MOPC urges drivers to drive with caution , pay attention to traffic signs and follow the instructions of the authorities.
