SANTO DOMINGO. – President Luis Abinader said this Friday that the delivery of apartments has been a complex task for his government, due to irregularities accumulated during previous administrations, where the same property was assigned to several owners.
"This process has been more complex than anticipated, especially in the case of apartments, due to irregularities accumulated during previous administrations, where the same properties were even assigned two or three times," the president declared during the delivery of 580 property titles in Santo Domingo East and North.
He expressed that even so, the effort has been worthwhile, because today the residents of the benefited sectors enter the event with uncertainty and leave with peace, justice and legal security.
Abinader highlighted that, for the first time, they are delivering property titles for apartments and recalled that many of these housing projects were left unfinished during past administrations and that, due to a moral and human commitment, his government decided to finish them and complete the legal process that culminates today with the formal delivery of the titles.
The head of state delivered 580 definitive property titles for apartments to the same number of families residing in different sectors of the National District and the municipalities of Santo Domingo North and Santo Domingo East.
Of the 580 titles delivered, 253 correspond to the Sabana Perdida sector, Santo Domingo Norte; 120 to Villa Progreso del Este, 171 to Invivienda, Cancino and Juan Pablo Duarte, in Santo Domingo Este; and 36 to the Mairení sector, in the National District, directly benefiting hundreds of households that had been waiting for more than 20 years for the legal certification of ownership of their homes.
During the event, held at the Invivienda sports complex in Santo Domingo East, President Abinader expressed that this is one of the activities that gives him the most satisfaction, because it represents social justice for those who have waited for this right for years.
"That's why we are very happy and we will continue working, and this is one of the days that makes governing happiest, easiest, and most satisfying for us, when we are performing an act of justice such as handing over the title that you have been occupying for many years, for decades, and today it is legally yours.".
The president urged the families to take care of those titles that represent security and dignity for their homes and excitedly told them, "You entered through that door and when you leave you will leave with peace, with tranquility, with justice, but also with a much higher value for your property than you had before, because today you have your property title, you have your titles, you have it and this is the positive thing.".
He explained that, from now on, beneficiaries can access the formal financial system, request loans to improve their homes or start businesses, without depending on informal mechanisms, thus contributing to boosting the economy.
Finally, the head of state announced that the titling process will continue in different parts of the country, including the National District, where the delivery of thousands of titles in popular neighborhoods is planned, reaffirming his government's commitment to legality, equity and the dignity of Dominican families.
Having a degree truly brings peace of mind
For his part, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), Ney García, stated that with this delivery of titles, justice is done, a promise is fulfilled, and, above all, peace and dignity are restored to hundreds of homes.
Meanwhile, Duarte Méndez, executive director of the State Land Titling Technical Unit (UTECT), stated that the institutions are sparing no effort to achieve the goals set by President Abinader and bring peace and security to so many families. "This is a special event, because it involves the delivery of titles to apartments and functional units. Anyone familiar with the legal procedures knows the difficulties involved in carrying out projects and titling apartments, and we have been working tirelessly for a long time to deliver the more than 13,000 titles we have in our portfolio.".
Visibly moved, Andrea Severino spoke on behalf of the newly titled homeowners, expressing that receiving their property titles allows them to sleep peacefully knowing that no one will evict them from their homes. She said they have gone from the anguish of inheriting debt and fear to the peace of leaving behind a secure home and a treasure that restores dignity, tranquility, and a future. "We are now homeowners," she said. "No one will take us from our homes. Mr. President, on behalf of all the families represented here, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.".
