Ports are operating normally after Tropical Storm Melissa passed through, Apordom reported

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) reported that all ports in the country are in perfect condition and operating at full capacity, after the passage of Tropical Storm Melissa through national territory.

The institution said it conducted technical inspections and structural assessments at the country's main port terminals, confirming that there was no significant damage or disruption to maritime operations.

The agency's executive director, Jean Luis Rodríguez, emphasized that the necessary measures were taken to guarantee the operational safety of Dominican ports.

“Even before Melissa made landfall, we activated our port emergency protocol, ensuring the protection of docks, equipment, vessels, and personnel. Thanks to this coordinated effort, we can now confirm that all ports in the country are fully operational and ready to resume their activities as normal,” Rodríguez stated.

He explained that the entity's technical teams carried out immediate verification tours at the cargo, container and cruise terminals, verifying the stability of the structures, the functionality of the electrical systems and the operability of the internal access routes.

“Our priority is to guarantee the operational continuity of the national port system, protecting the investments and confidence of all stakeholders in the maritime sector. Today, Dominican ports demonstrate that they are prepared and managed with vision and efficiency,” the executive director added.

APORDOM reiterated that cargo, unloading, cabotage and cruise ship reception operations remain completely normal throughout the national territory, reaffirming the institutional commitment to the safety, stability and competitiveness of the Dominican Republic's port system.
