SANTO DOMINGO. – The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported that it has begun implementing pilot tests aimed at training artificial intelligence (AI) models for document verification and assistance to users of its services without human intervention.
The institution explained in a press release that the idea is waiting times for procedures and make more efficient , especially in areas such as Immigration and Migration Control, where most procedures are carried out with the entry and exit of people from the national territory, and for permits and residences in the different categories.
According to the DGM , the use of AI will optimize procedures that require verifying information provided by applicants, ensuring greater transparency and security in the processes. It added that this measure aims to eliminate bureaucratic practices and reduce potential corruption attempts , while improving the quality of service offered to nationals and foreign residents in the country.
He specified that the measure represents a decisive step towards a more agile and secure
“AI will allow the DGM to train its systems for the automatic verification of documents such as passports, powers of attorney and photographs, improving the detection of possible irregularities,” he says.
He also stated that they are developing an intelligent chatbot which, once its programming and data input process is complete, will be able to answer questions about laws, decrees, resolutions, and immigration requirements, without deviating from official sources. With this innovative approach, the DGM reaffirms its commitment to institutional efficiency, transparency, and the modernization of public services.
