May solidarity visit Fiona's suffering

No one knows better than those involved in the real estate and construction sectors the emotions, expressions, motivations, and feelings that overwhelm a human being when they receive the keys to a home.

The Dominican Republic is a country of compassionate people. Their humanity is expressed daily, especially when tragic events occur, such as the one we are currently experiencing, with the damage caused by Hurricane Fiona, which left enormous scars in the East and Northeast of the country.

The Dominican Republic's main tourist destination suffered damage, precisely where many of the players in the real estate and construction sectors live and develop their business plans. Although most hotels were able to continue operating normally, given their strong and secure facilities, the situation for families with vulnerable homes is entirely different.

The government announced the reconstruction of 8,300 houses destroyed by Fiona's passage through Dominican territory, but stated that the damage caused by the storm has not yet been definitively tallied.

While life returns to full normality for the exercise of work in these areas, we urge the real estate and construction community to extend a helping hand to those who need it most in this event: families with homes made of "semi-disposable" material, whose conditions expose them to being at the forefront of suffering the blows of atmospheric phenomena and who today have been left without a roof and exposed.

No one knows better than those involved in the real estate and construction sectors the emotions, expressions, motivations, and feelings that overwhelm a human being when they receive the keys to a home.

We are born and live dreaming of achieving the most sacred good of our existence, that which shelters our sorrows, offers us security and tranquility in adulthood and old age.

No matter what type of home one owns, everyone, with whatever means they have, values and longs for the shelter of a roof over their head. Losing it is the worst defeat life can offer.

El Inmobiliario advocates for all members of the industry—leaders, guilds, builders, agents, hardware stores, architects, developers, product and service companies, and the entire community that is part of this great industry—to join forces to help, especially, the vulnerable families who are now victims of the damage caused by Hurricane Fiona.

Visiting the area, donating what you can, joining with a loved one, organizing collection drives for goods and supplies—there are countless ways to help those in need, because we all have something to contribute to our neighbors. Let's hope our compassion shines through and we help those who need a helping hand today.

We value initiatives like the AEI, which asked its members and representatives in general to join in the contributions, as well as Urban Group, which has made its facilities available as a collection center for those who wish to make their donations.

Water, clothing, canned goods, mosquito nets, hygiene items, powdered milk, and a whole range of products can be donated through reputable organizations that do not take advantage of the current vulnerability to do business, because in this country, criminal organizations are always on the lookout to exploit the fallen.

El Inmobiliario stands in solidarity with the humble families who were left without shelter, as well as with the numerous losses caused in the country by the passage of the atmospheric phenomenon.
