SANTO DOMINGO. – Journalist Solangel Valdez of the El Inmobiliario received a special mention in the Digital Journalism category during the twenty-first edition of the Epifanio Lantigua National Tourism Journalism Award (PEL 2025), held last night at a hotel in the Dominican capital.
The distinction was awarded for the reports “Colonial City: 7 years of works, only 3 streets finished and much discomfort”, published on June 21 of this year and gentrification, published on June 28, in El Inmobiliario the country's first Media Group specializing in the construction, real estate and tourism sectors.
The first one addresses the intervention in the Colonial City, with emphasis on the delay of the works and their impact on the area, documenting the number of streets completed after seven years of work, as well as the discomfort of merchants and residents due to the delay in completing them.
The second deals with the urban transformation of the area and the revitalization of its heritage.
During the awards ceremony, other journalism professionals were also recognized. Karina Jiménez received the award in the Print Journalism category for her work at Listín Diario. Sudelka García received the award in the Gastronomy category for her work at El Nacional.
The 2025 PEL Grand Prize was awarded to Katheryn Luna, a journalist with the digital media outlet Acento, for her focus on inclusive tourism.
The awards ceremony was organized by the Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur), under the motto "We are culture," and was attended by representatives of the tourism sector and other stakeholders in the field.
Solangel Valdez
is a veteran journalist and photographer who has worked in various media outlets in the country, such as the newspaper Hoy and the now-defunct newspaper El Siglo.
