It includes 19.8 kilometers and 17 bridges.
After several years in the making, the Baní bypass was inaugurated this Thursday, in a ceremony led by President Luis Abinader , who highlighted the benefits that the new road will bring to the city, located in the south of the country.
The governor stated that the new road will reduce travel time between Santo Domingo and Barahona , decongest the urban center, and improve freight and passenger transport.
For his part, the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Eduardo Estrella, emphasized that the newly inaugurated road represents a milestone for the development of the southern region, more efficiently connecting Peravia province with tourist areas such as Las Salinas 19.8-kilometer road includes 17 bridges , among them the largest bridge over the Baní River, and has been designed with future expansion in mind.
Estrella explained that the ring road, marked and paved in two five-inch layers, had a total cost of 7.7 billion pesos , the result of two bidding processes that involved different companies.
He highlighted that this project complements other ongoing road projects, such as the Barahona–Enriquillo–Pedernales highway and the El Cercado – Hondo Valle highway , both strategic for integrating the southern provinces and reducing travel times to destinations like Bahía de las Águilas , which can now be visited in less than an hour from different locations in the region.
