SANTO DOMINGO. – A problem with the substation of the Electricity Transmission Company (ETED), located in San Pedro de Macorís , caused all the country's power generation plants to shut down on Tuesday, resulting in a general blackout.
Celso Marranzini, president of the Distribution Companies ( CUED San Pedro de Macorís Electricity Company (Cespm) to shut down first, followed by those of AES Dominicana , which caused a chain reaction of the rest of the power plants in the system, including Punta Catalina.
"We are bringing the system back online as quickly as possible. We are bringing the hydroelectric plants , and we should have the system restored within one, two, or three hours . The Transmission Company is reviewing exactly what happened and will provide all the necessary information," he reported.
According to the general manager of the Coordinating Body (OC), Manuel López San Pablo , the event happened at 1:20 p.m. this Tuesday.
"There was an event in the system that we are reviewing . There was a failure that occurred that we are investigating ," San Pablo explained.
He said the system will be restored and reported that several areas had service .
"We are working in tandem with the system so that, as we investigate (what the failure ), if it persists, nothing else will happen," he stated.
ETED apologized to the public for the inconvenience caused and thanked them for their understanding regarding this unforeseen situation affecting the electricity supply.
