SANTO DOMINGO. -The Executive Branch promulgated this Tuesday the Air Services Agreement between the government of the Dominican Republic and that of the People's Republic of China, the Dominican Presidency reported in a statement.
“The agreement recognizes the importance of air transport as a means of creating and promoting friendship, understanding and cooperation between both peoples, facilitating the expansion of international air transport opportunities,” he explains.
The presidential decree, dated December 30, 2022, orders that resolution 373-22, approved by the National Congress and signed on December 19, 2022, be published in the Official Gazette for its knowledge and execution.
The resolution was signed in Beijing on November 2, 2018, the date on which Danilo Medina made a trip to the Asian country.
It is worth remembering that on November 2, 2018, then-President Danilo Medina held a working meeting with his counterpart from the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, who were honorary witnesses at the signing of agreements in various areas for the benefit of both nations.
Among the agreements and memoranda of understanding signed, according to a statement from the Presidency at that time, were: the Civil Aviation cooperation agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding for facilitating the export of Dominican tobacco to China.
In May 2018, the governments of the Dominican Republic and the People's Republic of China announced the establishment of diplomatic relations, which in turn severed a bond of more than 75 years between Taiwan and the Dominican State.
“The Government of the Dominican Republic recognizes that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory,” said Flavio Darío Espinal, then legal advisor to the Executive Branch, after pointing to China’s commercial potential as a determining factor.
