It highlights the power of female leadership in the real estate sector.
SANTO DOMINGO - With 26 years of experience in the sector, Elizabeth Martínez believes that the growth of women within the real estate field is not only evident, but decisive for the development of the current market.
The real estate consultant emphasized the influence of pioneering female leaders who have left a profound mark on the industry. “We have many leaders and also unsung heroines,” she said, highlighting the importance of recognizing those who have worked for decades to strengthen the sector.
During her appearance on the program "La Ventana" on Grupo de Medios El Inmobiliario , the veteran agent highlighted that the Dominican real estate sector is predominantly female. "Women represent around 65% of the sector ," she stated, noting that this leadership encompasses everyone from property showrooms and independent agents to well-known figures within the market.
Martínez emphasized that continuous learning is key in the real estate profession. “You’re always learning,” she said, referring to both new generations and those who have developed their careers over decades, highlighting the importance of staying up-to-date with market changes.
Regarding the evolution of female leadership, Martínez explained that, although in the United States the average age of women in the sector is 55, the situation in the Dominican Republic is different. Here, women range in age from 21 to over 70, with an average between 45 and 50, demonstrating a generational breadth .
She also noted that new generations are making significant inroads. “There are many young people starting out,” she said, describing them as micro and small business owners looking to build teams and carve out a niche for themselves. According to Martínez, these women are entrepreneurs who handle large transactions with seriousness and responsibility, even though they don't yet have large teams of their own.
Martínez also emphasized the importance of a balance between technology and humanity . “There is a leadership of more technologically savvy, much more open-minded young women, but they can’t forget that our business is human ,” she stated, reminding everyone that houses don’t speak for themselves, but rather that customers are the ones who make the difference in every business.
The advisor added that many of the pioneers have managed to build lifelong relationships with their clients, demonstrating that trust and consistency are elements that no technology can replace. “These are remarkable women who have built wonderful businesses even without digital tools,” she said.
Another strength Martínez highlighted is women's ability to surround themselves with other women, delegate, and balance their professional and personal lives. According to her, this mutual support has been key to the success and longevity of many in the sector, building strong teams and developing new leaders.
Finally, Martínez asserted that the future of female leadership in the Dominican real estate sector is secure , provided that new generations find a balance between technological innovation and the human touch that characterizes the profession. “The important thing is not to forget that this business is built on human relationships and trust,” she concluded.
