SANTO DOMINGO.-Under a new podcast format called "Let's Talk About Results", the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) reported yesterday that the Dominican Republic registered the arrival of 1,057,216 visitors in February, representing a 19% growth compared to last year.
In offering his usual monthly report on the statistics of visitor movement entering the country, David Collado explained from the headquarters of Mitur, that by air alone the country received 755,832 tourists in the second month of this year, which represents a growth of 14 percent more than in the same month of last year, 33% in relation to 2022 and 25% with respect to 2019.
The official explained that this remarkable growth was also recorded by sea with the arrival of 301,384 cruise passengers, with the Taino Bay port receiving the largest number with 117,876 passengers, Amber Cove 90,089, followed by La Romana 69,136, Catalina Island 10,153 and Santo Domingo 2,016.
He noted that this arrival of cruise passengers represents an increase of 19% compared to the same month last year, 208% compared to 2022 and 159% compared to 2019.
“Incredible. We broke our own records again. 1,057,216 visitors in February alone,” Collado highlighted.
According to figures from Mitur, 59.7% of non-resident tourists arriving by air did so through the Punta Cana airport, 21% through Las Américas, while 9.5% arrived through Cibao.
The Minister of Tourism projects that by the end of the year the country will receive more than 11 million visitors, highlighting that the Dominican Republic has experienced its best winter tourism season in its history.
Crisis does not affect tourism
Collado assured that the instability process that Haiti is experiencing "has not affected at all" the tourism of the Dominican Republic.
Describing the Haitian situation as "lamentable," Collado said that the tourism sector has not registered any decreases in hotel reservations or cancellations.
“Thank God tourism continues to grow,” the minister stated.
