SANTO DOMINGO. – The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported that ten provinces of the country remain under preventive surveillance, due to the accumulation of moisture in the ground caused by the influence of a trough and a tropical wave affecting the national territory.
The provinces under this provision are: Monte Plata, La Altagracia, National District, Barahona, Peravia, La Romana, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, Santo Domingo and San José de Ocoa.
The measure is activated in the event of occurrences that pose a risk to the population, such as urban flooding or landslides.
The alert status was lifted for Monseñor Nouel, Montecristi, Dajabón, Pedernales, San Juan, Duarte, Santiago, Bahoruco, Santiago Rodríguez, Independencia, Puerto Plata, Valverde and Azua, following an improvement in weather conditions.
Regarding the maritime situation, operators of small vessels were advised to remain in port from Isla Beata (Pedernales) to San Rafael beach (Barahona), as well as from Cabo Engaño (La Altagracia) to Isla Saona (La Romana), due to the presence of high waves and gusts of wind.
On the Atlantic coast, the stretch between Cabo Engaño and Punta Manglares (El Seibo) should also be avoided for navigation. The rest of the coast has more stable conditions, although caution is advised in areas near the shoreline.
In an official statement, the emergency agency urged residents of communities near the Valdesia Las Barias Hydroelectric Complex, such as Presa Jigüey, Los Mineros, El Rosalito, Aguacate, Las Avispas, Mucha Agua, Yaguate, Pizarrete, and others, to take preventative measures to regulate the flooding due to the forecast of rains at the Valdesia plant.
