SANTO DOMINGO - The governor of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD), Héctor Valdez Albizu, received the certificate that accredits that the institution successfully completed the recertification process in Information Security Management under the ISO 27001:2022 standard, extending its scope to the Real-Time Gross Settlement System (RTGS) Administration process.
He stated that “this is yet another achievement that testifies to the constant effort that the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) has been making since 2012 to mitigate risks and contribute to strengthening cybersecurity in the region, thus providing Dominicans with an Information Security Management System in the financial and payments sector in accordance with the best international standards, thereby placing them in a favorable position to face the challenges arising from emerging threats.”.
Montserrat Aguilar, representative of the international certification society based in Norway, Der Norske Veritas (DNV), noted that “this certification validates that the Central Bank complies with the guidelines established in the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 standard, which demonstrates the continuous effort to keep the Dominican Republic at the highest levels of self-defense against the risks and contingencies involved in information management.”.
Since 2012, the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) has maintained this certification for the investment certificate process, as a result of its commitment to complying with the guidelines established in the various versions of the ISO/IEC 27001 standard. In this way, the BCRD remains in constant evolution in accordance with the most advanced regulations and standards in cybersecurity and information security.
The preparation activities for the external audit carried out by DNV were coordinated by the Cybersecurity and Information Security Department, with the collaboration of various departments of the BCRD.
With this achievement, the Central Bank strengthens and accredits the reliability of the stakeholders involved in the certified processes, in all matters concerning the security and privacy of information.
To receive the certificate, the governor was accompanied by the manager, Ervin Novas Bello; the director of the Payment Systems Department, Ángel González Tejada; the director of the Treasury Department, José Gabriel Perdomo López; and the director of the Cybersecurity and Information Security Department, Ruddy M. Simons Llauger.
