SANTO DOMINGO. -The “Alejandro E. Grullón E.” Chair of Sustainability, a result of the alliance between the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and the Popular Foundation, delivered to society the fifth training cohort of its Master's Degree in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability, raising to 88 the number of graduates of this academic program with double degree that began in 2015.
In this fifth cohort, a total of 17 students presented their final research projects and successfully defended their theses. The student body included professionals from various organizations, with backgrounds in business management, sustainable development, and corporate social responsibility.
The graduation ceremony for the Master's Degree in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability took place during the PUCMM graduation ceremony, the 78th at the Santo Domingo campus, in which 1,326 new graduates received their degrees.
Professionals with dual degrees
The Master's Degree in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability, which has a double degree awarded by PUCMM and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Spain, was the first of its kind to be established in the Dominican Republic, and has contributed to the strengthening of professional capacities in this field, becoming an important pillar for professionalizing sustainable management in companies and institutions in the country.
These specialized studies last 18 months, with a total of 42 credits, and are aimed at professionals in economic, social, business, engineering and public administration sciences, as well as people with experience in corporate sustainability.
In total, throughout the master's program, students receive knowledge from 10 professors and lecturers from the UPV and from another five from the PUCMM.

Its purpose is to train professionals to apply policies and strategies that generate a significant social and environmental impact at all levels of their organizations, teaching them to implement management and measurement tools that strengthen sustainability as a cross-cutting element to achieve the right course of companies and institutions and that these contribute to a fairer and more sustainable society.
Academic space on sustainable development
In addition to the master's program, the "Alejandro E. Grullón E." Chair of Sustainability promotes an academic space with meetings, workshops, specialized courses, diplomas and other training activities on key issues of sustainability and social responsibility, whose objective is to stimulate dialogue between the private sector, the public sector, academia and civil society to enhance research and the transmission of knowledge in the field of sustainable development.
At the same time, the chair is a recognition of the professional and human trajectory of the founder of Banco Popular Dominicano and Grupo Popular, Mr. Alejandro E. Grullón E., and of his legacy to the Dominican nation as an exemplary citizen committed to the highest values and interests of Dominican identity.
