SANTO DOMINGO. – The Association of Real Estate Agencies and Companies (AEI ) expressed its solidarity with the families affected by the tragedy that occurred early Tuesday morning at the Jet Set nightclub, where, as of 2:00 pm, the authorities reported 44 victims and around 150 people transferred to various health centers in Greater Santo Domingo.
“We join in prayer with all citizens for the recovery of the injured and in national mourning for the deceased,” posted the association that brings together the country’s main real estate agencies and brokers.
In response to the events, President Luis April 8th to 10th half-mast in military installations and public buildings throughout the country.
The AEI expressed its appreciation "for the tenacious and admirable work carried out by the rescue teams since the early hours of the morning.".
More than 40 dead
In its latest bulletin, the Emergency Operations Center ( COE ) placed the number of dead at 44 , who were trapped in the collapse of the nightclub building where the musician Rubby Pérez was entertaining at the traditional Monday dance.
The director of the COE, General Juan Manuel Méndez , reported around 2 p.m. that the data is preliminary and that rescue efforts continue in search of people who may still be trapped in the rubble.
Although he did not offer an exact number of missing persons, he maintained that "there are still opportunities" to find people alive.
Authorities are relying on specialized technology, such as thermal cameras and acoustic detection equipment, to identify signs of life in the collapsed areas of the facility.
