Tourism Minister David Collado inaugurated the reconstructed tourist pier in Miches, El Seibo province, this weekend, with an investment of RD$51,400,000.
The project involves the complete reconstruction of the existing pier, which was destroyed after Hurricane Fiona passed through the country, incorporating structural elements made of metal and treated wood, which guarantee resistance, durability and harmony with the marine environment, according to a press release.
Collado said that the handover of the rebuilt pier is another step forward for tourism development in Miches, a destination with rising growth.
“With the delivery of this rebuilt pier, we are taking another step forward in strengthening this beautiful destination of Miches, which will have a direct impact on its economy as a source of wealth and jobs throughout the area,” the official stated.
This dock, he indicated, will serve for the embarkation and disembarkation of boats and catamarans, which constitutes a proposal for the tourism development that this community so desperately needed.
Composition
The dock is made up of galvanized metal piles, driven and filled with structural concrete, a main and secondary metal structure, composed of W16x36, W16x26 and W8x13 beams, as well as a treated American pine wood floor, covering the entire main walkway, treated wood protection railings, with stainless steel fittings and fixings.
It also features a 20'x20' central gazebo, built of structural wood, with an asphalt shingle roof over 1"x6 tongue and groove lining, a structural steel access platform with treated wood flooring, attached to the main dock.
It also consists of a lighting and electrical system, made up of wooden poles with luminaires, CPVC Schedule 80 conduits and automatic control by means of photocell and timer and application of paints and protective coatings for all metal and wood surfaces exposed to the marine environment.
The dock's electrical installation features a system designed to ensure safety and visibility during nighttime hours, as well as enhancing the overall aesthetic.
The installation includes 20 wooden poles and LED lights; the system is controlled by photocells and timers, allowing for automatic and efficient operation.
The reconstruction of the Miches tourist pier, located on the coastal coast of this municipality, is part of the actions of the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) and the Executive Committee of Infrastructure of Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR), aimed at strengthening the port-tourist infrastructure of the country.
Fact
The tourist pier in Miches collapsed after Hurricane Fiona struck in September 2022. It has direct access to the boardwalk, one of the main recreation centers for community members and tourists in the Playa Arriba community in Miches.
