SANTO DOMINGO. -The Las Aromas golf course in Santiago served as the setting for the eighteenth edition of the Grand Thomas Celebrity Classic 2024, bringing together outstanding national and international golfers.
During the event, the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, reiterated the government's commitment to sporting events that promote the development of communities and encourage the practice of different disciplines, and in turn represent a tool for the sustainable development of each province.
Peña highlighted that the event represents Santiago's commitment to sports and a platform to continue inspiring and motivating future generations to organize and showcase all the efforts of the people of Santiago, both personally and professionally.

In that regard, Haime Thomas Frías Carela, president of the Quality Life Foundations, the non-profit organization that organizes the tournament, stated that the Grand Thomas Celebrity tournament began precisely in Santiago in 2006, becoming the flagship event of the city, and that this year the committee for choosing dedications decided to highlight the celebration of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2024.
On the other hand, the mayor of Santiago, Ulises Rodríguez, expressed that the event contributes to the city's positioning and leadership in sports.
Manuel Estrella, president of Cibao Fútbol Club, indicated that sporting events and other activities are also a tool to promote sustainable development, and this is how they have understood it in Santiago.
About the Grand Thomas Celebrity Classic
It is a golf tournament that since 2006 has been defined as a city branding event, and was part of the official program of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Santiago coat of arms.
Over its 18 years, with 33 tournaments held, the Grand Thomas Celebrity has seen the participation of nearly 4,000 golfers, both national and international.
