These are the 42 apartments that the Public Prosecutor's Office seized in Santiago and San Francisco de Macorís from defendants in Operation FM

SANTIAGO. - 42 apartments located in different areas of Santiago and San Francisco de Macorís were seized by the Public Ministry, as part of the investigations against those involved in the drug trafficking money laundering network dismantled under Operation FM, for which seven people are being prosecuted.

The occupation of the properties, valued at RD$53 million, was carried out in coordination with the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD), according to Ramona Nova, head of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing.

The court prosecutor thanked the Transnational Criminal Investigative Units (TCIU) and the United States Embassy for their cooperation.

He reported that 15 apartments, valued at approximately RD$21,250,000, were seized in MyD I on Imbert Street in Santiago. Also, in MyD II, on Ercilia Pepín Street (B) in the same province, another 15 apartments, valued at RD$18.1 million, were seized.

Meanwhile, in the MyDIII building on Cristino Zeno Street in San Francisco de Macorís, Duarte province, 12 apartments were seized and valued at RD$14.2 million.

Also, a plot of land in the province of Santiago, owned by Santiago Núñez Gil, was seized and is currently being appraised.

Juan Gabriel Pérez Tejada, Juan Isidro Pérez de la Rosa and Anabel Altagracia Sánchez Santana are being prosecuted in this case, and since last April they have been in pretrial detention in the correction and rehabilitation centers for men and women in Rafey, Santiago.

Also, Gladis Sofía Azcona de la Cruz, Rolando Miguel Reyes Javier, Dyna Madison Noguera Polanco, Ramluis Mejía Azcona, who are also serving pretrial detention in the Najayo Men and Najayo Women correction and rehabilitation centers, in San Cristóbal.

About the network

The FM Case is linked to an international network dedicated to laundering assets from drug trafficking, which in August 2020 had some 4.3 million dollars brought to the Dominican Republic in speakers seized.

The defendants were arrested in Operation FM, carried out by the Public Ministry on March 10, under the General Directorate of Prosecution and the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Anti-Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism, as part of the fight that the Attorney General's Office is carrying out against organized crime.

The operation included raids in Santiago, Santo Domingo and Punta Cana, in which the acting prosecutors seized more than one million dollars and 760 thousand pesos, as well as 13 vehicles, including one Ferrari and two Porsches.

About 15 prosecutors and 145 members of the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) and other Dominican State security agencies were in charge of the operation, which had international cooperation from HSI (Homeland Security Investigations Office) of the United States.
