DAJABÓN.- The Dominican government announced that it will purchase private land located on the northern strip of the dividing line between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, for the construction of the border wall.
The announcement was made by a commission from the Ministry of Defense (MIDE) during a meeting with the people who would be evicted in the municipalities of Loma de Cabrera, Restauración and Dajabón
The delegation was made up of Colonels Joaquincito Bocio Familia, legal consultant of the MIDE, and Juan Adames Almonte, coordinator of the Sabana Larga Battle Border Operations base in Dajabón.
Colonel Bocio explained that the commission for negotiating the appraisal of the purchase of land, houses, and warehouses located within 200 meters of the dividing line will meet at an upcoming meeting.
The meeting was held on the second floor of the building that houses the Interagency offices in Dajabón.
During the meeting, the authorities did not offer details about the amount of land that will be acquired for the so-called "National Wall".
Local representatives from the General Directorate of Customs also participated in the activity.
