SANTO DOMINGO – ACOPROVI, the Association of Housing Builders and Developers, is returning with its second annual “Women Who Build” event, a forum created to promote female empowerment and talent in the construction sector, according to the organization.
“We celebrate their work, contributions, and dedication to each project. These valuable women are part of our sector, and we salute and congratulate them on their impeccable work,” the organization stated in press releases published on its social media channels.
ACOPROVI adds that during Women's History Month, they wish to highlight the participation and empowerment of women in the construction sector.
"Therefore, we extend an invitation to all members and stakeholders in the sector to attend the second edition of our 'Women Who Build' panel," ACOPROVI emphasizes.
The activity will take place on Tuesday, March 28th, at the Intercontinental Hotel, from nine to eleven in the morning.
Among the panelists they cite is the Vice Minister of Housing of Panama, Daniela Argelis Martínez López, a prominent woman, a graduate of the Santa María La Antigua University (USMA), with a degree in Civil Engineering.
On its Instagram, the association that groups the builders states that the professional studied programs and subjects in Coastal and Ocean Engineering at Oregon States University, United States, and holds a master's degree in Strategic Management with a specialization in Integrated Water Management at USMA.
"She worked at the Ministry of Health (Minsa) between August 2016 and June 2017 as a civil engineer in charge of inspecting the construction of the Bocas del Toro hospital, Isla Colón. At the same time, she assisted the Health Infrastructure Department (DIS) of the Minsa Regional headquarters in Changuinola. In August 2015, she served as an assistant engineer or resident engineer at the Ricord Trading Construction Company – Las Anclas Mall, in the district of La Chorrera.".
Also presenting will be architect Liza Ortega, a UNIBE graduate with a master's degree in architecture, art, and ephemeral space from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in Barcelona. She founded her studio, Design-Build Liza Ortega Arquitectos, in 2002. In 2018, she partnered with Franc Ortega to form Ortega Arquitectos, an alliance that brings extensive experience in architectural design and planning and a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from single-family homes to large institutional projects
His portfolio includes a variety of acclaimed projects specializing in commercial and interior architecture, notably the transformation of the Grupo SID facilities and Spirit RD, the first coworking space with a holistic approach to work and well-being. He has also worked on projects for international brands such as Mac, Pandora, and IQOS stores. His commercial architecture projects include restaurants like Jalao, the River Suites at Casa Bonita, the Indomita Gallery, and the Cortes Experience Center, among others.
The first edition
The first installment of Women Who Build was held last year with panelists including architect Yermys Peña, from Studio YP; Vivian Reyes Roca, Vice Minister of Standards, Regulations and Procedures of the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED) and Rosanna Ruiz, Executive President of the Association of Commercial Banks of the Dominican Republic (ABA).
