The Cultural Scaffolding project at the Santiago Monument Museum is under renovation; it is expected to be completed in 2027.

The Museum at the Monument in Santiago is undergoing renovations; it is expected to be ready in 2027

The Museum to the Heroes of the Restoration occupies the second and third levels of the Santiago Monument, housing historical figures and murals by the Spanish artist José Vela Zanetti, painted between 1952 and 1953, exclusively for the monument.

The cultural site tells the story of the Restoration War, and because of its importance, it is currently being renovated as part of a comprehensive program focused on the safety, cleaning, maintenance, and museography of this national symbol.

The adaptation of the museum and the entire monument is scheduled to be completed in 2027, as the process involves several stages.

María Belissa Ramírez de Zaiek, interim director of the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration, highlighted that the original construction of the monument did not contemplate the creation of a museum, so this adaptation is a significant effort to preserve the history of the Restoration War and its heroes.

This project not only seeks to improve the visitor experience, but also to ensure the preservation of this cultural and historical heritage for future generations.

So far, the work has included installing new signage in Spanish and English and repairing leaks. In addition, the museum's displays will be updated to reflect a more modern style.

Among its exhibits, highlights include images of the facilities of the first restoration government, guerrilla warfare tactics that were put into practice during that feat, the cry of Capotillo, a tribute to the restorers and other figures alluding to the era.

The Museum of the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration in Santiago, inaugurated on August 16, 2007, is a visual space that didactically presents the history of the Restoration of the Republic, a feat initiated after the Annexation of the country to Spain, highlighting its main events and emblematic values of the history of Santiago and the country.

Its facilities include paintings, murals, sculptures, patriotic phrases and 21 life-size figures, giving it incalculable educational, historical and patriotic value.

The museum is located in one of the country's most iconic buildings, whose construction began in 1944 and was completed in 1953.

In addition to being a historical and cultural heritage site, this space is used to promote the traditions, customs, art, music, folklore, sports and other elements of Dominican culture.
