The Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, through the Vice Ministry of Territorial Planning and Regional Development, coordinates actions with the Sur Futuro Foundation for the territorial planning plans of the municipalities of Hondo Valle, in the province of Elías Piña; Bohechío, in San Juan, and Padre Las Casas in Azua.
The announcement of these actions was made by the Deputy Minister of Territorial Planning and Regional Development, Domingo Matías, who received a visit from the executive director of Sur Futuro, Kathia Mejía, and the social coordinator of the entity, Marcio Beltré.
The sociologist and municipal expert assured the Sur Futuro board that he would coordinate with the technical teams of the Ministry of Economy in the development of territorial planning plans for the municipalities to be involved.
“The work teams of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development are fully prepared to contribute to the institutions interested in helping to develop the territorial planning plans for the towns and municipal districts,” Matías stated.
Meanwhile, the executive director of Sur Futuro, Kathia Mejía, stated that the proposal to organize the territories of the municipalities of Hondo Valle, Bohechío and Padre Las Casas will have the financial assistance of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
He stated that the legal framework recently enacted by President Luis Abinader offers a great opportunity to work jointly with the Ministry of Economy in organizing the territories of the communities, which guarantees governance of their natural and productive resources.
To coordinate actions with the Sur Futuro Foundation, Vice Minister Domingo Matías relied on the interventions of the head of Territorial Planning, Mercedes Frías; the head of Monitoring, Franklyn Santos; the sector specialist Pedro Sánchez, and Ángel Bolívar Ureña, assistant to the Vice Minister's office.
Law 368-22 on Territorial Planning, Human Settlements, and Land Use contains a regulatory framework for territorial planning at the national level and specific mandates aimed at enforcing a system of consequences in case of violations. It was enacted by President Luis Abinader in December 2022.
