SANTO DOMINGO. - In March, 1,020,571 tourists arrived in the Dominican Republic, setting a new historical record as the "best March for tourism," the Ministry of Tourism reported today in its usual monthly presentation to the media.
David Collado, Minister of Tourism, stated that the Dominican Republic set a record for air arrivals last month, with 740,324 passengers, exceeding the same month in 2019 by 10% and last year's figure by 20%. This figure is complemented by the arrival of 280,247 cruise ship passengers, a higher number than in the same month of 2022.
"If we add the 740,324 tourists who arrived by air and the 280,247 cruise ship passengers, we are talking about 1,020,571 visitors during the month of March, something never seen before in a single month in the history of tourism," Collado emphasized.
Likewise, the minister referred to the first quarter of this year as a historic one in the reception of foreigners and ethnic minors with 2,076,171.
“With that figure we even break our own records, since we surpassed 2019 by 1%, 2021 by 19% and 2022 by 21%,” he explained while speaking to the press at the Auditorium of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic.
Collado indicated that the projection is that by the end of the year the country will have received 7.8 million tourists.
"Everywhere the Dominican Republic goes, you feel the enthusiasm, you feel the love and admiration for a country of 10 million inhabitants that is in the Caribbean," Collado said today during the traditional monthly presentation of the national tourism sector statistics.
He explained that the countries that sent the most tourists in March were:
- United States with 48.1%
- Canada with 23.2%
- Colombia with 2.9%
- France with 2.6%
- Germany 2.5%
