The church donates land to the Dominican State where 86,000 people live in La Victoria

SANTO DOMINGO.- The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, received yesterday, Saturday, the property titles of the lands belonging to the town of La Victoria to begin the titling process for the citizens who reside there.

In a ceremony held at the La Victoria Sports Center, the president received the documents from Monsignor Francisco Ozoria Acosta, representing the Catholic Church, which owned the land.

Abinader instructed to begin the titling process for the parcels called 75 a, 75 b, 75 c and 75 d, which were subdivided into 23 positions in the cadastral district number 23 in La Victoria, where some 86,000 people will benefit.

In his speech, he recalled that a year ago more than 1,500 property titles were delivered in the same sector to achieve “social justice, development, peace, tranquility and family strength”.

"The lands that belong to the State are transferred to people who have been occupying those lands for many years; sometimes we have handed them over in the East to families who have been occupying those lands for more than 100 years," he said, adding that the Technical Titling Unit will be in charge of paying those transfer costs.

He stated that this act coincides with making La Victoria a municipality "because we are not going to have a municipality without a title.".

Meanwhile, the director of National Assets and the State Sugar Council, Rafael Burgos Gómez, thanked Monsignor Ozoria, representing Pope Francis, for giving his approval for this process to be carried out for all citizens of La Victoria.

Burgos Gómez indicated that 86,000 people will benefit from this donation made by the Holy Church to the Dominican government, who reside here with their families in the community of La Victoria.

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Santo Domingo, Monsignor Francisco Ozoria Acosta, stated that with this good work, every family deserves to have a home, but that this home should be on their own land. He praised the president's decision to grant titles to the families following an agreement with the Church.
