SANTO DOMINGO.- After launching four trains with six cars on Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro last Sunday, authorities reported good news yesterday: The Office for the Reorganization of Transportation ( OPRET ) reported that the first day of operation saw positive results in both reduced lines and increased passenger numbers.
In several comparative tables with previous periods, the agency specifies that in some cases, such as the Gregorio Gilbert, Gregorio Luperón, José Francisco Peña Gómez, and Hermanas Mirabal stations, the positive variation reached 100% . In the case of the Mamá Tingo , the reduction was 40% during peak hours.

At the Mamá Tingó station , the only one where they performed, the waiting time was reduced from 10 to 6 minutes , despite a 23.70% increase in the number of users, compared to the previous two Mondays.
Overall, this Monday saw 23.70% more passengers than on previous Mondays, demonstrating the positive impact of the measure, as described in the following table.

The institution added that, in the coming days, an even greater reduction in passenger boarding and circulation at the aforementioned station is expected, by increasing from four double trains to six coupled trains, which will begin operating from this Tuesday.
Opret stated that, as it was the first day of implementation, both the system configuration and user behavior were in a natural process of adaptation.
According to data provided last Sunday by President Luis Abinader during the inauguration, the new extension will increase capacity to 17,000 users per hour ; and based on demand, it is projected to reach 22,000 .
