SANTO DOMINGO - Starting yesterday, Monday the 11th, and until Saturday the 16th of August, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) will close various overpasses and bridges in Greater Santo Domingo to vehicular traffic, as brigades and equipment from the institution will be carrying out maintenance work.

The work to be carried out, which runs from 10:00 pm until completion time, includes general cleaning of the surroundings, collection of solid waste, sweeping and collection of aggregates, weed control, and drainage cleaning.

The overpass on Avenida 27 de Febrero will be closed this Monday and Tuesday. There will also be a partial closure of the Santo Domingo-Samaná highway underpass during those days due to electrical work.

Only on Monday will the Juan Bosch and Duarte bridges be affected, both with partial closure.

From Monday to Thursday, inclusive, there will be a partial closure in both directions of the tunnel at the intersection of Avenida 27 de Febrero and Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill, due to painting work. Identical work will also cause a partial closure, from Monday to Wednesday, of the Núñez de Cáceres tunnel.

On Tuesday, the crews continue work on the overpasses at John F. Kennedy Avenue and Doctor Defilló Street (also on Wednesday and Thursday due to electrical work), and the overpass at Kennedy Avenue and Núñez de Cáceres Street. They will also work on the long tunnel at 27 de Febrero Avenue with Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill Streets, as well as the one on Las Américas Avenue.

The work to be carried out Wednesday night involves the closure of the Kennedy overpasses at Lope de Vega and Tiradentes, and at Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln. Also included are the underpasses at 27 de Febrero with Doctor Defilló and Carmen Mendoza, as well as at 27 de Febrero with Núñez de Cáceres and Avenida Privada, and the tunnel and underpass on Marginal de Las Américas (only a partial closure).

The closures for Thursday involve the overpasses of 27 de Febrero with Ortega y Gasset, Kennedy with Ortega y Gasset, and the one of Marginal de Las Américas with Estados Unidos Avenue (in Los Tres Ojos).

Also on Thursday, the Juan Carlos bridge with the Las Américas highway, and the overpasses of Charles De Gaulle Avenue with Ecológica, and of Ecológica with Marginal Las Américas.

On Friday, the following overpasses will be closed: the Las Américas highway with the Puerto Caucedo road, the Las Américas highway with José Francisco Peña Gómez street (in Boca Chica), Las Américas with 7/6 street (La Caleta), and Las Américas with Route 66 (East-South and Southwest).

Also, the overpasses on the Jubey-Boca Chica road, and on the Santo Domingo-Samaná highway.

The closures scheduled for Saturday include the overpasses on the Las Américas highway (in Andrés, Boca Chica), and on Máximo Gómez at Nicolás de Ovando. Also included are the underpasses on the Expreso Quinto Centenario at Tunti Cáceres street and on Peña Batlle.
