SANTO DOMINGO.- Annerys Meléndez, president of the Dominican Association of Housing Builders and Developers (ACOPROVI), criticizes and analyzes the current situation of the deportation of Haitian citizens, highlighting that a disorderly repatriation would only lead to the paralysis of the works and non-compliance with the delivery times of the construction projects.
He highlighted the undeniable reality that in most countries, immigrants are the ones who perform the forced labor that natives are unwilling to do, emphasizing "construction".
He said that Acoprovi recognizes the importance of regularizing the Haitian workforce employed in rudimentary construction work, which is often lacking in preference and interest from Dominicans.
"The Haitian repatriation operation is an excellent opportunity to identify migrant workers who meet the requirements for work permits, and thus facilitate the formalization of the workers needed for these rudimentary jobs," he noted.

The leader expressed her institution's confidence that public policies capable of guaranteeing orderly migration regulation, which fosters the sustainable development of a key sector of the national economy, will continue to be promoted through the State and the operation that is being carried out.
“A disorganized immigration operation that does not allow for the gradual nationalization of construction workers by not respecting the preference of Dominicans for specific jobs within the construction industry would only lead to the paralysis of construction projects and the consequent inability to meet project delivery deadlines, that is, a negative effect on the housing construction sector that affects the Dominican buyers themselves,” he added.
The example concludes by stating that there would be irreversible economic consequences in the projects, thus increasing the price of housing.
He encouraged the public to continue monitoring the case, always ensuring that it is handled with respect for human rights. “Like everyone else, we are paying close attention to official information.”.
