President Abinader: "We need to provide answers to what happened, why it happened, and how it happened."

President Luis Abinader stated this Friday that "we must provide answers to what happened, why it happened, and how it happened," in the tragedy that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, April 8, at the Jet Set nightclub, whose roof collapse has so far resulted in the death of 221 people and 189 rescued from the rubble.

The president stressed the need for a thorough investigation to clarify the facts. "Until that answer arrives, we will mourn our people . We are deeply saddened, and the Dominican people are in mourning for the enormous number of deaths," the president stated, while attending the funeral services in Santiago for Eduardo Guarionex Estrella, son of the Minister of Public Works, Eduardo Estrella.

Abinader expressed his deep sorrow for the high number of deaths; however, he stressed that only God can comfort the population, both national and international, in the face of this situation.

"We are deeply saddened, and the Dominican people are in mourning. We are very sorry for the enormous number of deaths, but these are moments to turn to God, to be with God; only He can comfort us in this situation. But we are deeply saddened, that is the reality, the country is in mourning," the president commented.

Eduardo Guarionex Estrella's remains are laid to rest

The remains of Eduardo Guarionex Estrella were buried this Friday, near noon, in the Fuente de Luz cemetery, in Santiago de los Caballeros.

President Abinader was accompanied by the First Lady, Raquel Arbaje, and the Vice President, Raquel Peña, who offered their personal support to the Estrella family.

She didn't know her son was among the victims

The head of Public Works revealed this Friday that he never imagined that his son, Eduardo Guarionex Estrella, was among the fatalities of the tragic event that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub.

“When the president called me, the furthest thing I could think about was that my son was there,” the official said during the funeral rites, thanking everyone for the expressions of affection and solidarity received amidst the profound grief.

Estrella highlighted her son's qualities, describing him as her confidant and advisor, emphasizing his maturity, sense of responsibility, and nobility, despite his youth. "I feel incredibly proud of the son I raised," she stated.
