Housing Construction Begins: President Abinader's Reflection While Handing Over 300 Apartments to Families...

President Abinader's reflection while delivering 300 apartments to families in Hato Nuevo

SANTO DOMINGO. “Having a home is much more than having a space or a roof over your head; it's having security, the possibility of developing a family life with autonomy, of creating opportunities, and of establishing a more certain future.” This reflection comes from President Luis Abinader, as he handed over 300 apartments to the same number of families yesterday in Hato Nuevo, Santo Domingo Oeste.

This is the first phase of the Mi Vivienda (My Home) program, launched in April of last year, which includes a total of 1,232 apartment units with two and three bedrooms. Housing Minister Carlos Bonilla accompanied the president and stated that the handover took place during his first year in office.

Mi Vivienda Hato Nuevo is a residential development being built on over 153,000 square meters. The project features a playground, basketball court, parking for cars and motorcycles, and a large green area spanning over 6,275 square meters. This green space includes an ecological trail that runs throughout the entire development, providing residents with opportunities for exercise and walks.

The government has invested 2.858 billion pesos in this housing project, and to date has disbursed 1.102 billion. This has positively impacted the local economy by generating more than 2,900 direct jobs.

“I can’t think of a better way to celebrate MIVED’s first year than by delivering homes to our people. Today, more than 300 families leave behind their days as renters and become homeowners. This has been a fair, transparent, and rigorous selection process for the beneficiaries, allowing us to identify those who need us most. We want Dominicans to once again believe in their leaders, that doing things right is possible, and this delivery proves it,” said Minister Carlos Bonilla during the handover ceremony.

Hato Nuevo is part of the housing project announced by the central government that stipulates the construction of more than 7,400 apartments distributed between Santiago and Santo Domingo.

In addition to the Hato Nuevo project in the city of Santo Domingo, the Ministry of Housing and Buildings is constructing housing projects in Ciudad Modelo and San Luis; while in the northern zone the La Barranquita and Los Salados projects are being carried out.

During the handover of the keys, the president and the minister were accompanied by the administrator of Banreservas, Samuel Pereyra Rojas, and the Comptroller of the Republic, Catalino Correa.

Also part of the main table were Julia Drullard, governor of the province of Santo Domingo; Antonio Taveras Guzmán, senator of the province of Santo Domingo; José Andújar, mayor of the municipality of Santo Domingo Oeste and the parish priest Roberto Solano of the San José parish, who was in charge of blessing the ceremony for the delivery of apartments.

Also present were the 300 beneficiary families, members of the press, government collaborators, community members from the area, and other authorities.
