President Abinader highlights that Public-Private Partnerships are a tool for development

There are 12 initiatives under evaluation, including those related to road infrastructure, urban infrastructure and mobility, port infrastructure and tourism, among others.

SANTO DOMINGO.– President Luis Abinader referred this Monday during LA Semanal con la Prensa to Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs), describing them as national development tools that represent a key alternative to promote strategic infrastructure projects.

Regarding the investments registered in the country and those also carried out under the concept of PPPs, he highlighted that this Monday the British newspaper Financial Times recognized the investment climate inthe Dominican Republic.

In defining PPPs, he said they are long-term contracts between public and private agents to provide, manage or operate social goods and services with shared investment and risk, and remuneration linked to contractual performance.

These initiatives not only close the public infrastructure gap, but also improve the quality and scope of public services, boost the national economy and promote the generation of productive employment, thus contributing to the country's competitiveness.

Furthermore, President Abinader highlighted that this model has been successfully tested in Latin America, according to reports from The Economist and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), placing the nation among the six leading countries in this area.

Regarding the electrical works, it was reported that they are progressing according to schedule. The international airport is also under construction, and the conservation of Cabo Rojo's biodiversity is being considered.
