The latest report from rescue agencies on Thursday puts the death toll at 221 and the number of rescued at 189.
SANTO DOMINGO. – President Luis Abinader, through decree 195-25, extended the national mourning period for three more days following the tragedy that occurred on April 8 at the Jet Set nightclub in the El Portal sector of the National District. According to the rescue agency's report as of Thursday, the death toll has reached 221, with 189 people rescued.
Article 1 of the aforementioned decree establishes that the mourning declared by Decree No. 194-25 , of April 8, 2025, is extended and consequently the days of April 11, 12 and 13, 2025 .
Article 2 refers to the fact that the national flag must be flown at half-mast during the designated days, in military premises and public buildings throughout the country.
Among its considerations is "that, following the tragic events of the early morning of April 8, 2025, in which part of the roof of the Jet Set nightclub collapsed in the National District, causing
the death of hundreds of people, the government of the Dominican Republic
decided to declare official mourning on April 8, 9 and 10, 2025."
The second consideration states: "That within the framework of the heroic effort of the authorities and of many
citizens who have collaborated in the most diverse ways, it has been noted that the magnitude of
this grim event far exceeds any previous event of this nature in the
country and in the region, as well as the initial expectations of the entire Dominican population."
In this regard, Article 1 states, "The mourning declared by Decree No. 194-25, of April 8, 2025, is extended, and consequently, the days of April 11, 12, and 13, 2025, are declared official days of mourning, due to the tragic situation that occurred in the early morning of April 8, 2025, in the
National District."
