SANTO DOMINGO. – Servicios Digitales Popular and its commercial brand AZUL celebrated ten years of operations, highlighting its leadership in the national market for card payment acceptance, mobile wallets and digital solutions, reaching more than 850 million transactions.
In this decade, the Grupo Popular subsidiary has recorded, through its various platforms, a turnover volume exceeding RD$2,000 trillion, mainly in retail, the corporate segment and tourism, according to a press release from the banking entity.
It also highlights that, through this leadership, AZUL has democratized the way companies process electronic payments, with more than 40,000 affiliated establishments across the country.
The company's strategy has focused on establishing a direct relationship between merchants and cardholders, based on innovation, security and service.
Milestones in AZUL's digital revolution
Before an audience of more than 300 AZUL customers, Eugene A. Rault Grullón, executive vice president of Popular Digital Services, highlighted the achievements in innovation and growth during these years, which have evolved the digital payments market in the country.
“We have helped thousands of companies expand their horizons, accept payments easily, and build trust with their customers. Beyond the numbers, our goal is to connect ideas with actions, entrepreneurs with their dreams, and consumers with an ideal shopping experience,” Rault Grullón emphasized.
Among the innovations presented in this first decade of institutional life, the executive vice president of Popular Digital Services highlighted several milestones, starting with the launch of terminals integrated into stores, NFC technology for contactless payments and the AZUL E-commerce.
He also commented on how AZUL innovated in the national market by integrating Shopify, launching the Payment Link, offering the Dynamic Currency Conversion Service, and introducing instant payments with QR Code and cardholder authentication.
He emphasized that the company also offered its members a valuable tool, the AZUL App, which integrates several products into a single platform and allows businesses to centralize all their payment management on their mobile device.
During this time, according to Mr. Rault Grullón, AZUL has also developed an advanced payment gateway, with cutting-edge tools such as a data vault to protect sensitive customer information. Additionally, it incorporated the PayPal payment button for online sales, facilitating secure transactions.
Transformation of the digital and financial ecosystem
Within the framework of this commemorative event, the panel “Electronic Commerce: Innovation and Growth in the Digital Ecosystem” took place, in which emerging trends and the challenges that economies face in their transition to digital commerce were analyzed.
Among the panelists were Patty Yunén from Google Advertising, Roberta Isfer from Visa, Marcelo Galíndez from Mercado Pago, Sebastián Ferrara from Centro Cuesta Nacional, and Stefany Bello from Mastercard, who offered perspectives on how payment technologies are transforming business relationships and consumer expectations.
The day included the participation of renowned speaker JJ Delgado, who gave a talk entitled "Digital Business, the emotion in the age of the click".
In this presentation, Delgado shared his vision on how companies can connect emotionally with consumers in an increasingly digital and competitive environment, highlighting the importance of customer experience in e-commerce.
