Pedernales, a paradise located in the Southeast of the country

One of its great attractions, with its fine white sand beaches, unique in the country, is Bahía de las Águilas, located within the Jaragua National Park. It is recognized as one of the most beautiful in the world for its crystal clear turquoise waters and for the impressive karst landscape.

In the Southeast of the country lies a destination with high tourism potential, concentrated mainly on its coasts, and we are talking about the province of Pedernales, a town that offers varied tourism including sun, beach, cultural, gastronomic and ecological tourism.

The beauty of the coastal area is countless, but another valuable attraction we must add is the warmth and simplicity of its people. There, the common denominator is the solidarity, kindness, good treatment, and respect that the residents of Pedernal extend to their visitors.

Currently, the main economic activity of the province consists of agriculture, coffee production, mining, livestock and fishing, the latter being one of the most important for the people.

This destination is one of the most scenic and lush in the country, offering a stunning tropical setting. It also boasts a rich and varied cuisine. One of the most common breakfast dishes is the famous "tres golpes," a combination of mangú (mashed plantains) served with egg, fried salami, and cheese.

Another alternative with a creative twist for lunch is the renowned mixed mofongo, which consists of a ball of mashed plantain with a little garlic, topped and filled with fresh seafood with a white sauce.

What else to do

After lunch you can choose to visit one of its famous beaches with fine white sand, unique in the country, such as Bahía de las Águilas, located within the Jaragua National Park, it is recognized as one of the most beautiful in the world for its crystal clear turquoise waters and for the impressive karst landscape.

Cabo Rojo is another must-see beach that you shouldn't miss on your visit to Pedernales. It's one of the most popular in the region, captivating visitors with its exquisite coastal views.

If you'd like to visit a beach just as beautiful with similar characteristics to those mentioned above, we have an option for you: Pedernales Beach, located right in the heart of town. It's a lovely place to go for a swim and enjoy the spectacular sunset.

Romero Wells

There are three crystal-clear pools located on the Barahona-Pedernales highway. Two of them offer a pleasant, fun, and refreshing experience. It's an adventure that doesn't take long to reach, given its proximity to town.

Mulito River

The El Mulito River originates on the southern slopes of the Sierra de Bahoruco mountain range. It's a paradisiacal area of lush vegetation, with cold, crystal-clear waters and a restless current that impresses even the most indifferent visitor. The sounds of a cicada repeatedly provided the soundtrack to our visit.

Data

Pedernales owes its name to the fact that much of its terrain is composed of a type of sharp, cutting rock called flint. It is the seventh largest province in the country, occupying 4% of the national territory.
