SANTO DOMINGO.- New plaintiffs would join the more than 120 registered by the Public Prosecutor's Office in the file of request for coercive measures, in the "Cheetah" case, through which the prosecuting body revealed an alleged network that would have defrauded multiple people of more than US$18 million, under the promise of selling fake properties.
Yesterday, the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the Judicial District of La Romana postponed until Tuesday, February 25, the hearing for the request for coercive measures against three of those involved in the case.
Although she did not specify the exact number of new cases, lawyer Carolina Núñez, who represents a group of plaintiffs, told El Inmobiliario that the total number of victims could reach more than 150.
“Officially there are 126, but many new complaints were filed today,” he said.
He reported that the new complaints are not included in the measure filed yesterday to prosecute Canadian Yves Alexandre Giroux, who was arrested after surrendering to authorities on Tuesday the 11th of this month, but that, nevertheless, there are several lawyers representing alleged victims.
“There are several lawyers who have already deposited today and others who will deposit it, so we cannot have an exact sum, but it could be around 150, because there were many new lawyers representing victims who had not filed a complaint,” Núñez said.
Postponement
The postponement of the hearing on the coercive measure, scheduled for Tuesday, was granted at the request of Yves Alexandre Giroux's lawyers. The Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the Judicial District of La Romana accepted their request to merge the Canadian's case with those of Marisol Nova Nolasco and Rocío del Alba Rodríguez de Moya.
