With the presence of the main authorities of the province, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, inaugurated the reconstruction of the Pepillo Salcedo municipal park (Manzanillo) over the weekend, as part of the set of infrastructure works that seek to boost tourism in that province, located in the northwest line.
The project was managed by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR), with an investment of approximately RD$39,442,363.72.
Collado said that “with the delivery of this project, his interest in bringing tourism and recreation to every corner of the country, generating jobs and improving the quality of life of its inhabitants, is reaffirmed.”.
The official explained that making a long-standing demand of its residents a reality is part of the commitment of the Ministry of Tourism and the government, together with President Luis Abinader, to develop tourism in Montecristi as a tourist destination with great potential.
A press release from the Ministry of Tourism specifies that its reconstruction was carried out in an intervention area of 5,500 square meters, within which 870 square meters of sidewalk and 285 linear meters of curbs were made.
He explains that the work included the construction of a new roundabout with a modern and avant-garde design of 140 square meters, finished in concrete and wood.
In an area of 2,575 square meters of plaza, the new park features landscaping, lighting and urban amenities.
The stormwater drainage solution was integrated with complementary facilities to collect runoff water from the area.
The landscaping included plant species such as mahogany, oak, gumbo-limbo, guayacan, and Bermuda grass.
Collado was accompanied at the inauguration of the renovated municipal park by Senator Ramón Antonio Pimentel of Montecristi; Governor Nelsy Cruz; the mayors of the main municipality, Rafael Jesús Pérez; of Manzanillo, Ignacio Rosa; Samuel Toribio, of Guayubín; Lucho Reyes, for Palo Verde and Henry Castro, mayor of Villa Vásquez.
Representing the Ministry of Tourism were the administrative and destination management vice-ministers, Yaneris Then and Patricia Mejía, respectively; the director of CEIZTUR, Sixto Brea; and General Hinoru Matsunaga, director of the Tourist Police, -Politur-, as well as provincial directors of the tourism institution.
