How does the money collected from tolls across the country go to public works?

“We are pleased to announce that we are signing a very important agreement with VisaNet, so that users can simply tap their cards at the tollbooth and pass through much faster, without needing cash.” Efraín Hirujo.

SANTO DOMINGO - In road projects across the country, such as the ring roads being built in Baní and Azua, as well as in Navarrete and San Francisco de Macorís, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) assures that it returns to the public the payments made by users of the various tollbooths in the country.

“The money we receive from toll collection at the various stations scattered along roads and highways is used to expand the Dominican Republic’s extensive road infrastructure,” explains Efraín Hirujo, General Director of the RDVial Trust.

He also added the extension of the Ecological Avenue, as well as the intervention and improvement of the Duarte Highway, which he said are works that are part of the large road circuit that is currently being developed.

The funds raised by the organization he manages are also used for the construction of the Andrés overpass on the Las Américas highway and the Enriquillo-Pedernales road.

Other works that the MOPC is carrying out with the money from the trust are the intersection of Pintura, 27 de Febrero with Luperón, Plaza de la Bandera and the John F. Kennedy avenue with Luperón, at the Kilometer 9 stop of the Duarte highway.

“All these road infrastructure projects aim to improve the user experience, and that’s what we do with the funds collected. We can also say that all the cleaning of the main roads, the pruning, signage, installation of guardrails, reflective road studs, and all the vertical and horizontal signage on the main roads are part of the investments made with what people pay,” he states.

Expands rapid pace

Regarding the facilities offered by RDVial to make travel on the various highways smoother for citizens, Hirujo cited a series of mechanisms that will expedite toll payments, in order to save users time, money, and fuel.

He explains that numerous channels have been enabled for this purpose, so that the fast-track process can be completed without any problems.

“Through the RDVial Trust, we are focusing on improving the experience of all users nationwide, and it is no secret that vehicular traffic grows between 4 and 6% every year, and the technology we found dates back to 2013,” he explains.

He says that this has forced them to create the platform and channels so that users have a better experience, both in terms of how to recharge 829 380 9965, which is the WhatsApp number "so that all our users can recharge once and for all and that their balances are reflected at all toll stations.".

He states that it will be much easier to acquire the quick payment system, "much easier to recharge through all the channels we have, because we have signed important agreements with Banco Popular, Banco de Reservas and BHD so that everyone can acquire it.".

He said that the fast-track pass can also be purchased through pharmacies associated with the card.

“We are pleased to announce that we are signing a very important agreement with VisaNet, so that users can simply place their cards at the tollbooth and pass through much faster, without needing cash,” he says.

The fast-track pass can also be purchased through Santo Domingo Motors. “It can be said that the revolution has arrived at RDVial, and the change is felt at all toll plazas. Just wait and see what will be the most emblematic transformation currently underway in Latin America regarding tolls in the Dominican Republic,” he stated.
