SANTO DOMINGO. – The year 2026 will have seven long weekends, as established by the official calendar released by the Ministry of Labor of the Dominican Republic.
The application of these holidays responds to the provisions of Law 139-97, promulgated on June 19, 1997 and published in the Official Gazette No. 9957, which provides for the transfer of holidays that coincide with Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday to Mondays, guaranteeing their compliance in all establishments in the country.
According to the official agency, these will be the public holidays in 2026:
Thursday, January 1st: New Year's Day, no changes.
Monday, January 5: Transfer of Three Kings Day (originally Tuesday the 6th).
Wednesday, January 21: Our Lady of Altagracia Day, it will not be changed.
Monday, January 26: Juan Pablo Duarte's birthday, it will not be changed.
Friday, February 27: National Independence, unchangeable.
Friday, April 3: Good Friday, fixed.
Monday, May 4: Labor Day moved (originally Friday, May 1).
Thursday, June 4: Corpus Christi, it will not be changed.
Sunday, August 16: Restoration Day, no change.
Thursday, September 24: Our Lady of Mercy Day, it will not be changed.
Monday, November 9: Constitution Day moved (originally Friday the 6th).
Friday, December 25: Christmas, no changes.
