In Las Terrenas, Samaná, President Luis Abinader yesterday inaugurated the renovated Plaza del Pueblo de los Pescadores (Fishermen's Village Square) with an investment exceeding RD$290 million .
The renovated plaza is a project with a construction area of 4,930 square meters . It houses 10 food stalls, 3 of which are double stalls. It also includes technical rooms, general services, lighting, and signage.
Tourism Minister David Collado stated that this project represents a turning point for the area.
He highlighted the state investment in the province, which amounts to RD 1,388 million , destined for various infrastructure works and tourism development.

The project was managed by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (Ceiztur) of the Ministry of Tourism. (EXTERNAL SOURCE).
He also announced that the Samaná boardwalk and a territorial planning plan will be implemented for Las Terrenas , with the participation of the private sector and the support of security entities such as Politur, the Navy, the DNCD and the National Police.
“We are experiencing the best moment in tourism history; we will make Terrenas an exemplary tourist destination. That is President Luis Abinader's vision,” Collado stated.
Fire detection system
The new Fishermen's Village Square features a modern fire detection system, a certified GPM water pump suppression system, and a chemical suppression system in the kitchens.
The project was managed by the Executive Committee for Infrastructure in Tourist Zones (Ceiztur) of the Ministry of Tourism.
Those present at the event included the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza ; the Commander General of the Navy, Vice Admiral Agustín Morillo ; the Director General of Drug Control, Vice Admiral José Cabrera Ulloa ; the Director General of Airport Security, Brigadier General Enmanuel Souffront ; the Governor of Samaná, Teodora Mullix ; the Mayor of Las Terrenas, Eduardo Esteban ; the President of the Dominican Federation of Municipalities and Mayor of Santa Barbara de Samaná, Nelson Núñez; and the Central Director of the Tourist Police, General Minoru Matsunaga.
