Goodbye to pictures on the headboard wall: alternatives that give personality to the bedroom

Pictures are the most popular choice for decorating the headboard wall. They help highlight the presence of the bed and act as a focal point, regardless of its size or colors. And, while this is an option that can define the decorative style and give personality to the bedroom, there are many other possibilities that can bring this wall to life. Moldings, mirrors, wallpaper, or an extra-large headboard are some of them.

The most minimalist option

If you want your bedroom to feel calm and elegant, avoid unnecessary decorations. Leaving the walls completely bare is a sophisticated and perfect alternative for a simple and personal bedroom. In this bedroom, where understated luxury reigns, it's the bed linens and flooring that add personality and character.

Dare to use porcelain tiles on the headboard wall

One of the trends taking over bedrooms is to forgo the headboard and install floor-to-ceiling porcelain tiles. This is a way to decorate the wall where the headboard would be, avoiding the need for paintings or other decorative elements. In this case, a herringbone wood-look tile was chosen, which adds warmth and a touch of elegance and sophistication.

Elegant decorative moldings

Moldings have become one of the most widespread trends for decorating walls throughout the house, and yes, that includes the headboard. To let their beauty and elegance take center stage, foregoing paintings is a good option.

You can add some personality to the wall by adding wall sconces on either side of the bed, like these antique ones that decorate this bedroom. Vintage style is very fashionable, and if you want to add a different and trendy touch, opt for gold ones—there's nothing like the elegance of the past!.

A wooden wainscoting, ideal for a rustic touch

Another idea for decorating the wall behind the bed is to forgo a headboard and instead opt for a wooden wainscoting that spans the entire wall. Thanks to the strong presence and character of the wood, you won't need any other decoration in the room. If you want to add a more personal touch, you can add two pendant lamps on either side of the bed that match the wood tone. The result will be wonderfully rustic.

A large mirror for a more spacious feel

Want to brighten up your bedroom while also decorating the headboard wall? Replace traditional paintings with a large, horizontally placed mirror, as shown here. You'll achieve a more informal and relaxed look if it's placed above a built-in headboard. Plus, your bedroom will appear much larger thanks to the visual effect of spaciousness created by the mirror.

A paneled wall

A paneled wall painted in a bold color can be enough to decorate the headboard wall. In this example, to create a balanced bedroom with plenty of color, the wall has been paneled in a greenish tone and coordinated with the bed linens.

If you want to liven up your headboard wall without pictures, opt for a painted mural. It doesn't have to be loud or flashy; you can choose a simple and delicate design, like the one on this wall, inspired by Japanese murals with rustic touches

A sophisticated wall with wallpaper

One of the most enduring trends in interior design over the past few years has been the use of wallpaper. What began as a novelty has become a firm favorite among decorative options for walls. It's a great alternative to paintings, especially if you choose a textile-based design, which adds both texture and warmth.

A glass wall

In large bedrooms where you want to separate spaces, for example, a dressing room or a play area—as is the case in this teenager's bedroom—you can plan a glass wall. It will allow light to flow through the room and give the headboard wall a light and elegant look.

A headboard made of wooden slats

Wooden slats and paneled walls have become another of the latest trends in interior design. We associate them with modern and contemporary spaces, where clean, simple lines prevail, while still maintaining a sense of warmth. A good example for decorating the wall behind the bed is this wooden slat headboard that reaches the ceiling and elevates the elegance of the bedroom.

A classic, imposing headboard

When a bedroom boasts such an imposing headboard as the one in this example, the presence of artwork to decorate the wall—and overwhelm the decor—is unnecessary. In this case, two discreet pieces have been placed on either side of the headboard to soften the blue tone of the wall and headboard, and create a more harmonious look.

A bridge-type wardrobe

While more practical than decorative, installing a bridge-style wardrobe on the headboard wall is a great alternative when storage space is limited. Its design helps define the bedroom's style, as seen here, where the beige color adds a touch of elegance and the absence of handles enhances the room's modern look.
