Fitram will carry out the construction of the Metropolitan Train through a public-private partnership

SANTO DOMINGO – The Trust for the Development of the Mass Transit System of the Dominican Republic (Fitram) announced the cancellation of the bidding process for the infrastructure of the Santo Domingo Metropolitan Train , with the aim of carrying out the project through a public-private partnership .

“As part of the financing strategies for strategic and priority projects for the Government management, it has been decided to cancel the bidding process for the Santo Domingo Metropolitan Train, a process that will be redesigned as a public-private partnership or concession project, according to the mechanism allowed by law,” Fitram reported.

During the bidding process, numerous  interested parties from various countries approached Fitram to express their capacity and interest in investing in the project . This makes it possible to optimize resource availability through the public-private partnership mechanisms promoted by law. In this regard, in the coming months, the Government, through Fitram, will conduct a roadshow to attract interested parties and evaluate the mechanisms that will allow progress on this Metropolitan Train project, a priority for the Dominican State , aimed at overcoming the city's current mobility challenges.

The institution reported that they will be promoting the initiative under mechanisms that allow the trust to structure the project technically, legally, and financially.

About the Santo Domingo Metropolitan Train

The Santo Domingo Metropolitan Train is part of the Integrated Transportation System (SIT) of Santo Domingo and in its first phase will connect the Las Américas International Airport with the Olympic Center, integrated into Lines 1 and 2 of the Santo Domingo Metro, to give access to more than 500,000 new users to the mass transit system.

This system will connect Santo Domingo East with the National District via the Juan Bosch – Duarte bridge, completing access to the urban and suburban sectors within the project's area of ​​influence, such as: in the National District , Miraflores, Gazcue, Villa Francisca, San Lázaro, Mejoramiento Social, Domingo Savio, Borojol and the Colonial City; in Santo Domingo East , Villa Duarte, Los Mameyes, Maquitería, Oxígeno, Ensanche Ozama, Villa Faro, Invivienda, Los Frailes I and II, Juan López, Brisa Oriental, Hipódromo, La Ureña, Marbella, Ciudad Juan Bosch, Campo Lindo, Villa Panamericana, ITLA, Boca Chica and the Las Américas International Airport, impacting a population of approximately one million inhabitants.
