SANTO DOMINGO.- The executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcántara, declared that the entity will initiate a sanctioning process against the American airline JetBlue “for each proven breach against consumer rights, in accordance with the provisions established in Law 358-05.”
Alcántara asked JetBlue customers to approach Pro Consumidor and formally file their complaints or grievances, so that the entity's legal team can analyze possible violations or infringements of their rights as users of this airline.
He warned that if fraud against users by this airline is proven, "Pro Consumidor will proceed to sanction it in accordance with the provisions of articles 104-105-107 of that regulation and other sectoral laws.".
“As soon as consumers who feel their rights have been violated file their formal complaints with this institution, we will immediately proceed to conduct the corresponding investigations to verify if there was indeed fraud, and if so, we will initiate the corresponding sanction process,” he stated.
The official noted that Pro Consumidor can act on its own initiative, "but ideally consumers should be able to prove the violation of their rights so that the entity can initiate a sanctioning process to try to resolve any type of harm that has been done to airline users.".
Eddy Alcántara also recalled that last year that consumer rights organization warned JetBlue to comply with the services they have been offering "due to the constant complaints of non-compliance by consumers.".
The executive director of Pro Consumidor explained that after the warning, complaints initially decreased, "but currently we have received several complaints from customers who have requested the services of this airline, due to delays and last-minute flight cancellations to and from the Dominican Republic.".
Finally, the head of Pro Consumidor said that the law is clear in establishing that companies are obligated to offer quality goods and services, as well as provide clear and truthful information to consumers.
