SANTO DOMINGO.- The president of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (Codia), Carlos Mendoza, lamented this Wednesday the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub, where until 9:00 am the authorities confirmed 18 dead and more than 121 injured, after the roof of the facility collapsed early Tuesday morning.
He said the entity is waiting for the relief authorities to lift the restrictions imposed on the site while the search and rescue operation continues, in order to proceed with the corresponding inspection.
He explained that only through visual inspection with the survey conducted by structural engineers and technicians will they be able to determine the reasons that could have caused the building to collapse.
“On behalf of our national board of directors, we want to express our condolences to all the family members, friends, and associates of the citizens who were in the nightclub that collapsed last night. To the Dominican people for this tragedy,” the engineer told El Inmobiliario.

The latest report from the Emergency Operations Center (COE) states that the death toll in the tragedy has risen to 18, while the number of injured has increased to more than 120.
President Luis Abinader visited the site after 8:00 am, along with his wife, First Lady Raquel Arbaje, where he expressed his regret over the events and said that search and rescue efforts continue with the support of various institutions.
