SANTO DOMINGO.- The Hilton La Romana hotel and the Bayahibe Electricity Company (CEB), a subsidiary of CEPM, inaugurated a new solar park on the hotel complex's premises, with an installed capacity of 685 kWp, a step towards the sustainability of the national tourism sector.
With this installation, an estimated annual production of 868 MWh of 100% renewable energy is expected, which will prevent 496 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, equivalent to 510 barrels of oil, thus contributing to the mitigation of climate change and the energy transition in the eastern region of the country.
“We continue to forge alliances with leading hotel chains, such as Playa Hotels & Resorts, owner and operator of Hilton La Romana, to reduce emissions in the sector and move towards a cleaner and more efficient energy model. Our purpose is clear: to support the transformation of the eastern region's tourist destination, making it increasingly sustainable and competitive,” said Óscar San Martín, General Manager of CEB.

"Today, the leisure market is looking for destinations focused on responsible management, cutting-edge concepts, guest-oriented service, and a real commitment to the natural environment and sustainable tourism," said Roberto Garrido, Vice President of Operations for Playa Hotels & Resorts in the Dominican Republic.
Hilton La Romana has integrated sustainability as a central pillar of its operational management, guiding all its decisions toward environmental, social, and economic balance. Among its initiatives, the implementation of the Green Globe and Playa Cares programs stands out. These programs aim to reduce water and energy consumption, minimize waste, foster a culture of ecological awareness among its employees and partners, and support community development.
CEB, as a subsidiary of CEPM, is driving this project within the framework of the 'CEPM Zero' decarbonization commitment. The initiative aligns with the vision of a cleaner and more efficient energy system, integrating renewable technologies to move towards increasingly sustainable operations in one of the country's leading tourist destinations, according to a press release.
