SANTO DOMINGO. -The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), through the Small Grants Programme (SGP) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), invited non-profit organizations (NPOs) and grassroots community organizations (GCOs) to submit project ideas that promote environmental protection and sustainable development in local communities.
This call seeks to identify community initiatives that contribute to the management and conservation of biodiversity, mitigation and adaptation to climate change, sustainable management of land and forests, protection of international water sources, and the management of solid waste and chemicals, according to a press release.
The selected projects may receive up to $50,000 in funding, provided they propose a matching contribution in cash or in kind equal to or greater than the requested amount. Furthermore, proposals that promote the participation of women and youth , strengthen local institutions, and ensure sustainability beyond the project's implementation period will be given preference.

The Small Grants Programme is an initiative of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) intended to support civil society organizations with financing and technical and administrative assistance in developing community actions in favor of the global environment and generating well-being for people at the local level.
The PPS was established as a result of the Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. It is implemented globally by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP ) on behalf of the GEF implementing agencies.
