The Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) reported yesterday that it has begun repair work on the tourist and fishing pier of Río San Juan, after strong waves caused by recent weather conditions partially displaced the breakwater.
The institution confirmed that the core of the pier's structure remains completely intact. "The relocation of the affected rocks has begun immediately to restore the infrastructure's protection and ensure its safety," a press release stated.
APORDOM stressed that, although weather conditions cannot be controlled, the entity remains on constant alert to protect port infrastructure and safeguard lives.
As a preventative measure, prior to the weather events, the wood was voluntarily removed from the structure, and it is now being reinstalled in optimal condition.
He said that under the supervision of a specialized technical team, along with the collaboration of the construction company, the necessary repairs and adjustments are being carried out to ensure the pier regains its full functionality. "Furthermore, preparations are underway for the second phase of the project, previously announced by President Luis Abinader.".
The institution thanked the community for its support and highlighted the significant progress this project represents for local well-being. At the same time, it urged citizens to verify information before sharing it, thus avoiding misunderstandings.
"The Dominican Port Authority reiterates its firm commitment to the safety, efficiency and preservation of port infrastructure throughout the country, and assures that it will continue working to ensure that Dominican ports continue to operate safely and efficiently," the press release states.
