SANTO DOMINGO.- Aeropuertos Dominicanos (Aerodom), a subsidiary of the French multinational VINCI Airports, announced yesterday that it "successfully" closed a $940 million financing agreement to meet the obligations of a renewed concession contract it reached with the Dominican government at the end of last year.
Aerodom said in a press release that the sum comprises a global bond issue for $500 million and a credit agreement for $440 million, transactions that were closed on July 9.
The credit operation was led by Banco Popular Dominicano, Banco Múltiple, Banco Latinoamericano de Comercio Exterior, New York Agency, Citigroup Global Markets, JPMorgan Chase Bank and Popular Bank.
Meanwhile, the bond placement agents were The Bank of Nova Scotia, JPMorgan, Citigroup and Scotiabank, according to the information.
The company and the Dominican government reached a renewed concession agreement that will allow Aerodom to continue as the concessionaire of five airports and one airfield in the country until 2060.
In return, Aerodom agreed to make an initial concession payment of $775 million to the Government, committed to financing improvements at its airports and to building a new terminal for the Las Américas International Airport José Francisco Peña Gómez, in the province of Santo Domingo.
"We are very pleased to have made the second payment of the concession fee to the Dominican State to complete the commitment of 775 million dollars," said Aerodom's CEO, Mónika Infante Henríquez.
He added that they are also pleased to be "in the process of implementing the agreed improvements for the Las Américas International Airport José Francisco Peña Gómez, including the upcoming construction of the airport's new terminal.".
The statement asserted that VINCI Airports is the world's leading private airport operator, with more than 70 airports in 13 countries. It has been present in the Dominican Republic since 2016, when it acquired 100% of Aerodom's shares.
